Dual Secure Element for Key Storage
Many hardware wallets rely on the main microprocessor to protect critical data. PineBridge takes a different approach by using two secure elements, each from different suppliers, to keep your Bitcoin safe.
PineBridge specifically incorporates Microchip's ATECC608 and Maxim's DS28C36B to securely store your 24-word BIP39 seed phrase.
For a breach to occur, all three elements — both secure chips and the main microprocessor — would need to be compromised.
Genuine vs. Caution Lights
To counter tampering attempts, such as “Evil Maid” attacks, PineBridge firmware is signed with a factory key. During startup, the firmware signature and almost every flash memory byte are verified, setting either a green or red light accordingly.
Light status control is handled by dedicated circuitry connected to a secure element, ensuring software cannot alter it. The exposed light circuitry allows for easy detection of tampering.
Anti-phishing Words
PineBridge’s PIN is split into two parts, like 1234-5678. After entering the first part, two unique words appear on-screen, tied to each specific PIN prefix and PineBridge device. (These words are generated securely and are not accessible outside the device.)
By memorizing these words and verifying them each time, you protect against fraudulent devices that might imitate your PineBridge without knowing these unique words.
Physical Security
The specially designed PCB heightens SE probing resistance. PineBridge’s clear casing is also part of its security model, allowing users to visually inspect for unauthorized hardware alterations.
Due to the in-depth secure element usage, PineBridge has no factory reset option. Forgotten PINs cannot be recovered, so proper disposal is advised.
For added security, a label with "SHOOT THESE" indicates the best points for device destruction when necessary.
Air Gap Operation
PineBridge operates without connecting to a computer. All functionalities are accessible via USB power packs or AC adapters, from initial setup to ongoing usage:
• Set up PIN and configure.
• Create or import a 24-seed phrase using TRNG, existing keys, or dice rolls.
Dice Roll and Verified Bitcoin Seed Creation
If you prefer not to use the built-in random number generator, PineBridge lets you create a BIP39 seed phrase through dice rolls. Input the values (1–6) for each roll, with 99 rolls recommended, to produce a secure, dice-based seed phrase. Learn how to verify the calculations here.
Advanced PIN Features
PineBridge has a few extra tricks to enhance your security!

Duress PIN
Set up an optional "duress PIN." If this PIN is entered instead of the real one, the device appears to function normally, but it actually opens an alternate wallet rather than the primary one!
This feature is most effective if some Bitcoin is placed in the duress wallet. You decide the amount needed to make the wallet look credible.
The duress wallet is generated from the same BIP39 words, so no separate backup is needed. However, there is no way to retrieve the original wallet’s funds from this duress wallet.
Countdown to Brick PIN
This is a covert variant of the "Brick Me" PIN feature. It enforces a countdown delay (minutes, hours, or days) upon logging in.
Once activated, unlike a standard countdown, this mode secretly "bricks" the device or optionally erases the seed, adding an extra layer of plausible deniability for high-stress scenarios.
It simulates the effect of a time delay (like a bank vault), while ensuring the device becomes inoperable if taken by an unauthorized user.
BIP39 Passphrases (25th word)
This feature enables you to create an unlimited number of hidden wallets, perfect for organizing funds or adding an extra layer of security. Unlike the single duress PIN, an unlimited number of passphrase wallets can be generated using BIP39.
Brick Me PIN
An additional PIN, known as the "Brick Me" PIN, can be set to destroy the secure elements, rendering your PineBridge unusable. This feature can be a crucial part of a security plan under duress, though it is entirely optional.
Login Countdown
Activate a time delay when logging into your PineBridge. Once the PIN is correctly entered, a countdown (set to minutes, hours, or days) appears. After the countdown, re-enter the PIN to access the device.
